Civilized Pet Tips: Soft sided crates are usually lighter weight than hard sided crates, but they also don’t provide as much protection as a hard shelled crate. For short car trips with small calm pets, soft sided carriers are well ventilated with more mesh. Their advantage for plane travel is for bringing your pet under the seat with you on board.
