Civilized Pet Tip: Iams Cat Food in CANS is currently formulated as grain free diets and unfortunately we don’t recommend them right now. Grain free diets are not recommended for cats unless your veterinarian has recommended a restricted diet for medical reasons. ROYAL CANIN CAT FOOD
Royal Canin was founded in 1968 by a veterinarian in France. The company was acquired twice more by larger corporations that funded research and expansion. In 1994, they began to make cat food. Recently, they launched a line of breed specific foods marketed to cat owners of some popular breeds like Siamese and Persian. We see this as a marketing strategy. Without studies proving they are truly distinct from the basic adult/kitten foods shown below, we choose not to include breed specific foods at this time. They also have a food marketed for spayed/neutered cats, but we don’t think this is substantially different from the indoor formula, or basic adult formula for that matter either. Royal Canin is better than other pet foods on the market but not the best of what’s listed in this section.
